A partnership between Apsis Carbon and Green Musk
Together for the Forest Awaeté REDD+ Project
Indigenous Leadership
Systemic Transformation
The Awaeté Project was born from the recognition that protecting the forest requires strengthening those who have cared for it for millennia.
Our starting point is simple, but essential: the forest only remains standing where there is an Indigenous presence and protagonism. For this reason, Awaeté acts in environmental preservation through a development model that values traditional knowledge and fosters the autonomy of Indigenous communities.
More than a response to destruction, the project is a path of construction. It breaks with the paternalistic logic and bets on solutions created from the inside out, with strategic articulation, an active voice, and a sense of belonging.
Caring for the forest is also caring for those who live in it. It is recognizing that there is no ecological balance without social justice.
Awaeté is a living forest, respected culture, and a possible future.
Scope
We have developed a REDD+ carbon credit project to protect 351,000 hectares of pristine Amazon rainforest, home to the Parakanã people.
This initiative will impact approximately 1,500 Indigenous people and generate high-integrity carbon credits.
90% of the revenue from the carbon credits will be directed to the communities over the 40-year duration of the project.
At the core of the Parakanã people’s economic progress are education, cultural preservation, and agroforestry.
By learning more about the non-Indigenous world, including their rights, they will strengthen their traditional knowledge of living in harmony with the forest, while also exploring new techniques.
We empower the Parakanã people and promote sustainable income generation by supporting the structuring of bioeconomy value chains, such as those for açaí and Brazil nuts.
The Parakanã people
We believe it’s possible to reverse this scenario. With financial support, access to knowledge, and strategic guidance, the Parakanã can exercise their autonomy, strengthen their culture, and protect the forest.
We’ve developed a methodology that places Indigenous peoples at the center of decisions about their own future. We are creating the conditions for them to choose, with freedom and leadership, the paths they wish to follow.
Protection
Our commitment also includes supporting the Parakanã in developing agroforestry business models, promoting sustainable income generation, and expanding access to education, clean water, energy, and basic sanitation.
Nature
Primary forests are disappearing at an accelerated rate worldwide. By empowering the Parakanã people, we aim to ensure the preservation of a crucial part of the Amazon rainforest.
To achieve this, we prioritize biodiversity protection and the appreciation of traditional knowledge. Our goal is to guarantee that this protection remains active for over 100 years, contributing to emissions reduction, carbon sequestration, and long-term climate stability.
GreenMusk is committed to preserving our planet by driving local, sustainable businesses. Inspired by the unity of the Three Musketeers, we believe in practical investments for a healthy planet. This means more than just providing funds. GreenMusk invests expertise, market knowledge, business mindset, and an extensive network of contacts. Our goal for the Parakanã people is to become a model where forest conservation and community prosperity go hand-in-hand.
